A great simple explanation of how inflation works and why we can’t spend our way out of recession.

The Urine test

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

THIS GUY MAKES A GOOD POINT
This was written by a construction worker in Fort MacMurray- he sure makes a lot of sense.

I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, I work on a rig site for a Fort Mac construction project. I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.
What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don’t have to pass a urine test. Shouldn’t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them?
Please understand that I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope.
Could you imagine how much money the provinces would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque?

Peter Schiff his Father & Income Tax

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Peter Schiff a well known economist to the libertarian community for his predictions of this down turn in our economy and of course his Austrian investment strategy speaks to the motor home diaries on his Father Irwin Schiff a famous Income Tax protester. There are many that believe that the way the IRS and CRA collect taxes by using force to give up your personal private information so that they can determine how much you should be paying, weather this is illegal or if the government can even collect taxes with out people forced to give up person privte information, one thing is forsure above all others government takes tax revenue very seriously attempting to be a political activist with in the tax system is asking for a world of trouble. I for one make sure my taxes are paid and find legal ways to make them lower, and practice civil disobedience or political activism in other ways, governments have no tolerance for tax avoidance or protesters real criminals like murders , armed robbery, vandals etc.. they can’t be bothered but tax protesters and avoidance are definitely an enemy of the state.

You can also watch more Peter Schiff on Freedom Watch on our Peter Schiff Category

Interesting case where a tax protest beat the government and was found not guilty of tax evasion (typical CBC blocked comments on this story which I am sure would have been very interesting)

Stimulus Frenzy Part Two

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

I am hearing more and more chatter about a second stimulus on both sides of the border. I find it hard to believe that both governments (ours especially seeing how they call themselves conservative) think that more spending to prop up jobs and prices that the market is so obviously trying to correct is the right solution. The focus on job volume rather then job sustainability and growth is starting to become alarming. Simply giving out money to create jobs the market does not want to exist can not last forever. A job that requires a “stimulus” is not sustainable and if kept employed for an extended period of time will likely cause job losses in other more productive sectors due to the tax burden these sectors will be forced to endure. Also stimulus backed jobs prop up prices that the free market is trying to correct which in the end costs us growth in the economy that could be employing more people which ultimately prolongs the recession that the country faces.

The government should focus on putting money back into the peoples pocket through tax cuts what a great stimulus package every one gets to keep 100% of there dollars for one year, imagine what kind of effect that would have on the spending habits of the people. Plus by allowing people to keep the money they earn they will get to choose where to spend it and when the people choose with there dollars that is the freemarket at work. The money will flow exactly where it should be going and those sectors will grown and create jobs, not by some bureaucrat. The free market is not some omnipotent thing it is simply the people spending there money the way this wish to spend it.

The government can also tear down barriers for companies trying to grow by removing certain regulations. Creating more jobs by making it harder to to business so that companies must hire more people is not sustainable. If companies are allowed to grow at the rate the free market sees fit then those jobs will be created in a more sustainable manner.

Of course the list of what the government can do (maybe I should say stop doing) to properly allow the economy to grow could go on forever, remember the MLA’s and MP’s work for you make sure to call them and let them know what you think about the issues that matter to you. You can’t expect any thing to change if you don’t get active.
